World of Whisky - Local Knowledge |
Michael Andrews, Train Manager, recommends some top drams to delight all palates.
Novice - Try a sweeter whisky, matured in sherry casks, such as Macallan 10yr or Ancestral 14yr.
Learner - Stay with a Speyside whisky, such as Glenlivet 10yr or Inverarity 10yr. These are matured in bourbon casks and have a lighter, flintier style, with overtones of heather.
Experienced - Now your palate begins to search for that malt that will carry you through your life. Try Balvenie 15yr, Highland Park 10yr or venture out to the west for Talisker from the Isle of Skye.
Expert - Head to the Isle of Islay, for the most flavoursome of all the whiskies. There are nine distilleries to choose from here. Laphroaig 10yr or Ardbeg 10yr are two of the better known ones, but also seek out Lagavulin 16yr for one of the best drams you'll come across. It's definitely one to savour.
Purist - Indulge yourself with the Dewar Rattray Collection, a group of limited malts bottled at cask strength. Unique in appearance and flavour, they reach up to 62.9% abv so a wee drop of water is advised!
Ask your barman to sample these whiskies and more from our on-board bar. |
