Known as 'The Boat' to the Highland locals, Boat of Garten is a small village ideally located on the banks of the River Spey, right on the edge of the Cairngorms National Park. Historically, Boat of Garten took its name from the ferry that crossed the River Spey. However, the creation of the railway in the area gave existence to the village, and this has now been preserved as part of the Strathspey Steam Railway.
Cairngorms National Park incorporates the largest mountainscape in the United Kingdom, and nearly a quarter of Scotland's native woodland. Surrounding areas are a haven for some of Scotland's finest wildlife, including the Slavonian Grebe and other rare birds in the local RSPB sanctuary. The River Spey is also a highly reknowned fishing spot.
For visitors, Boat of Garten is a superb stable for exploring the wonderful highland landscapes and wildlife, offering countless scenic walks and wildlife watching spots.
